Studying medicinal plants, cultivating a flower bed, putting together a herbarium and a video: Pianoro’s students, with the help of the “Pietro Lazzarini” Museum of Arts and Trades, explored the local territory with all five senses. The “Folk medicine” project, selected as part of the second edition of the “I love cultural heritage” competition of ideas (2012-2013), reflects the needs to raise student awareness on certain aspects of local history, and putting past traditions in touch with modern, environmentally-sustainable techniques.
The project’s numerous outputs include: a video on magic rituals of the past using local plants; a spiral-shaped flower bed outside the museum, featuring many common local herbaceous plants; a herbarium with specimens collected during field trips, and panels illustrating the characteristics of several medicinal plants and their use in herbal medicine.
